Paonia, Colorado

Overview:

In 1880, Paonia was settled by Samuel Wade and William Clark, however not officially incorporated until 1902. The town was named after the peony roots that Samuel Wade brought with him. Wade wanted to name the town "Paeonia" but the post office wouldn't allow the extra vowel, therefore Paeonia became Paonia.

Attractions:

Situated in the heart of the North Fork Valley, fishing, hiking, camping and river floating are all popular things to do. The nearby Paonia State Park is robust in natural beauty with forest and wildlife. Every July, this town hosts Paonia Cherry Days, in honor of their main crop. A very fun event for all who live there or are visiting.

Real Estate:

Whether you are looking for a cozy residential home near town or a home with a lot of acreage, Paonia has many options for you. Situated in a valley, there are gorgeous mountain views at every turn. If you prefer to build a custom home, there are many lots available both in the expanding town and also out in the country.
