Founded in 1890, the town of Ridgway was the headquarters for the Rio Grande Southern railroad which served the nearby gold mines, ranches and farms in Telluride and Ouray. Known as the "Gateway to the San Juans", the Ridgway Mountains are some of the most photographed peaks in Colorado.
